Why doesn’t Yahoo provide information on server maintenance schedules?

It is incredibly annoying to be dependent on Yahoo IM and get that “servers may be undergoing maintenance” message all the frickin day long. Especially since there is apparently no easy way to access information about what’s going on and when it might be back up.
Why doesn’t Yahoo provide information on server maintenance schedules?
