Remote Access Apple Mac OS X Using Windows – Mac – TechMynd

by on Jun.15, 2010, under Server Maintenance

Ever tried cross platform remote access or control? Here is a way you can access MAC using Windows remotely. WOW! Windows can do this! really? the answer is yes. Apple has got a built-in Apple Remote Desktop (ARD), but you can not use Windows to remote access Apple through ARD. But there is a way you can control MAC OS X using Windows. the trick is to use Vine Server (OSXvnc) at MAC and any other free remote VNC viewer at Windows.

Vine Server(OSXvnc)

Vine Server(OSXvnc) is a robust, full-featured VNC server for MacOS X. it allows VNC clients to remotely view or control the machine. it is provided by TestPlant, for use with Vine Viewer AND Eggplant for cross-platform testing.

VNC for Windows

For Windows use any of the following software.

TightVNC
Ultra VNC
RealVNC

I recommend TightVNC. TightVNC is a free remote control software. with TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.

Note: First comes the IP of remote machine and then :: and then port. make sure to check the port OSXvnc is using. Use that port in viewer with MAC IP.

Use these two software at MAC and Windows and by using VNC viewer at Windows, remotely access/control MAC.
