OC email firm gets $21 million, to add staff
by on Jan.27, 2012, under Ruby and Rails
SendGrid, a cloud-based email delivery company headquartered in Colorado with a second office in Anaheim, has raised $21 million in its latest round of funding and plans to use the money, in part, to do additional hiring.
The company currently has 70 workers combined in the two offices. Robert Phillips, a company spokesman, told the Boulder Daily Camera they expect to have more than 100 on staff by next year.
About 60 percent of the staff is in Boulder and the rest are in Anaheim. Phillips said he expects that ratio to continue.
Among the Anaheim openings listed on SendGrid’s website are senior Linux systems administrator, corporate recruiter, Ruby on Rails engineer or architect, product manager and enterprise sales director. Get more information at SendGrid’s careers website.
Bessemer Venture Partners led this round of financial. Foundry Group, Highway 12 Ventures, SoftTechVC, 500 Startups and Bullet Time Ventures, which are existing investors, also participated.
SendGrid said it has more than tripled its customer base since it was founded in 2009 and now sends out 2.6 million emails a month for customers in 150 countries.
“This investment allows us to more quickly fulfill our original vision of making email simple and easy for developers everywhere,” said Isaac Saldana, SendGrid’s president and co-founder. “Although we intend to expand quickly, we will remain focused on developers by continuing the expansion of our market-leading platform, growing developer relations and providing outstanding support.”

5 Predictions for Online Data in 2012
by on Jan.22, 2012, under Ruby and Rails
A new report suggests that LinkedIn’s value has surpassed the $2 billion mark, based on recent investments from outside investors.
According to Bloomberg, hedge fund Tiger Global Management spent $20 million to acquire approximately a 1% stake in the business social network. the hedge fund specifically paid $21.50 per share.
That’s where the math comes in. according to SharesPost, an online marketplace for privately held companies, LinkedIn has 105 million shares outstanding. Multiply that by the $21.50 Tiger Global Management spent, and you arrive at a valuation of $2.26 billion.
It’s important to note that Tiger Global didn’t make a new investment in the company; it acquired its shares from an existing investor.
Because this transaction occurred on the private market, these numbers aren’t concrete (for example, SharesPost estimates LinkedIn’s value at around $2 billion). However, we think it’s safe to assume that LinkedIn is now a multibillion dollar company. of course, that’s still a fraction of the price that Facebook currently commands, but how can you really complain about having a multibillion dollar company?
Do you think LinkedIn is worth $2 billion or do you think that valuating is too high or low? let us know your thoughts in the comments.
